Copec inaugurates new electric terminals in the Metropolitan Region

Copec inaugura nuevos electroterminales en la Región Metropolitana

The operation of the new Gabriela terminal will reduce 8,600 tons of CO₂ per year, powering 88 buses with cutting-edge technology and 100% renewable energy.

Santiago, August 7, 2025.- With the presence of the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Copec—through its subsidiary Copec Voltex—inaugurated the Gabriela Electroterminal in the commune of Puente Alto. This facility is part of the 22 new electric terminals that the company will operate this year in the capital.

Of this projected total:

  • 20 terminals will be built entirely by Copec.
  • 2 existing terminals will be powered by the company.

Infrastructure and Cutting-Edge Technology

The Gabriela Electroterminal stands out for its operational innovation, featuring 21 overhead-installed “split” chargers. This system optimizes space, improves safety, and facilitates the movement of the 88 electric buses that serve routes 325, E12, E13, E15c, and E16.

“Electromobility not only improves travel conditions but also the quality of life for passengers, drivers, and communities. This infrastructure will allow more than 60% of the fleet to be fully electric by early 2026,” stated Minister Juan Carlos Muñoz.
“This milestone reflects our commitment to supporting Chile in its challenges. We are consolidating a robust network that accelerates the transformation of public transport with high-standard infrastructure,” noted Andrea Castro, General Manager of Copec Voltex.

Environmental and Social Impact

The launch of this terminal generates direct benefits for the surrounding area, especially for nearby institutions like the Senda del Saber School:

  • Emission reduction: Avoids 8,600 tons of CO₂ per year (equivalent to 430,000 trees).
  • Noise pollution: Operation is significantly quieter than diesel terminals.
  • Clean Energy: 100% renewable supply provided by Copec Emoac.
"Today we are working to finish this period with 55 electroterminals, democratizing the offer of high-standard buses to every corner of the city," explained the DTPM director, Paola Tapia.

Copec Energy Ecosystem

The success of this project is based on the integration of various company subsidiaries:

  • Copec Voltex: Specialist in charging infrastructure.
  • Dhemax: Intelligent electric fleet management.
  • Copec Emoac: Supplier of 100% renewable energy.
