In conversation with Empresas 2050, the CEO of Copec addressed the company's decision to move towards cleaner energy. "We are doing this because the world needs it and climate change demands it," he stated.
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time, which is why various organizations are currently fighting to reduce their carbon emissions. On this path toward sustainability, clean energy plays a fundamental role.
In this regard, Copec, a company dedicated to the distribution of fossil fuels, made the unexpected decision to transition toward renewable energy. In conversation with Empresas 2050, Arturo Natho, CEO of the company, addressed the motivations behind this determination.
The manager stated that, since its founding, Copec's goal has always been to "collaborate and build toward the development of Chile." "We have the role of fostering and leading the energy transition (...) We have been working with that conviction for two years now," he said.
"We are doing this because the world needs it, climate change demands it, and Copec in particular, rather than resisting, seeks to be a catalyst for change that accelerates and favors the energy transition that we need on the planet and, of course, in Chile," he added.
Natho maintained that the company has a "service-oriented" focus where they constantly seek to "support the entire community in the challenges that arise over time," with the transition to renewable energy being one of them.
Copec invested "in brains" and decided to set up in Silicon Valley, since that is "where there is the largest number of startups related to new energies, mobility, and convenience, which are the areas in which we operate."
Finally, the CEO stressed the importance of electromobility and asserted that the company is already an electricity marketer with contracts "for more than 250 GW." "We are already a player, and all those 250 GW are from renewable energy," he concluded.
