Marking its 90th anniversary, the company has inaugurated the country's first station to replace traditional fuel pumps with electric chargers, with the capacity to serve up to 6 vehicles simultaneously.
At the event, which was attended by Minister of Energy Diego Pardow and the Mayor of Vitacura, Camila Merino, the company presented the progress made in its commitment to mass-market sustainable mobility and to strengthening the largest electric charging network in the country.
Santiago, January 2025.- As part of the start of its 90th-anniversary celebrations and its commitment to the development of electromobility in Chile, Copec has inaugurated its first 100% electric station and presented its progress in electromobility, with which it seeks to accelerate the energy transition and foster the mass adoption of electric vehicles in the country, supported by greater electric charging infrastructure.
The new station, located on the Costanera Norte highway in Vitacura, is the first in Chile to be completely transformed from traditional fuels to 100% electric energy. Thanks to its technology, this innovative space allows up to 6 vehicles to be charged simultaneously, with two different charging standards and three power levels, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of electric vehicles and expanding the options for its customers. The station is projected to serve up to 10,000 customers annually.
Additionally, it features a sustainable wooden design that will give it a unique visual identity, a battery-swapping station for Gogoro motorcycles, and an outdoor area equipped with tables and direct access to Pronto Copec, offering users a comfortable and functional space while they charge their vehicles.
The milestone was attended by the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, who highlighted that “the inauguration of Copec's first electric charging station is a milestone that shows the commitment of private actors to this challenge we have as a country. Electromobility is here to stay. We are convinced that the actions taken by public and private actors will allow us to move forward in the challenge of having clean and efficient means of transport, improving the quality of life for Chileans and thus reaching our goals to face the current climate crisis.”
For his part, Arturo Natho, General Manager of Copec, commented that “at Copec, we are celebrating 90 years of history in the service of people, companies, and the country, driving Chile's development. For us, the energy transition represents a great opportunity to innovate and advance toward a cleaner and more efficient development model. Therefore, we are transforming ourselves and committing to constantly anticipating people's needs. The inauguration of our first 100% electric service station, along with our commitment to mass-market sustainable mobility, marks a decisive step on this path. This reaffirms our dedication to developing innovative and sustainable solutions that promote the well-being of people and contribute to building a better future for Chile and its citizens.”
Copec driving electromobility
In line with its commitment, the company released a summary of its work in electromobility to date, which has helped position Chile as a benchmark in sustainable mobility, aligned with the company's purpose of driving the movement and development of people, companies, and the country.
Through its subsidiary Copec Voltex, the company has driven various projects focused on people, companies, and the country:
With a focus on people: Copec possesses the most extensive charging network for electric vehicles in Chile and Latin America, continuously connecting more than 2,000 kilometers from Coquimbo to Castro. Furthermore, this year the first fast chargers will be installed in Arica and Iquique, thereby achieving coverage in all regions of the country.
For those who prefer two-wheeled vehicles, the company has 15 battery-swapping stations for motorcycles in the Metropolitan Region, with new points to be added during 2025.
At the corporate level: Copec has implemented more than 450 industrial charging points in key sectors such as mining, logistics, and freight transport. These chargers, designed to support heavy equipment and passenger transport vehicles, will allow these sectors to advance toward sustainable and efficient mobility. An example of this is the charging centers installed for passenger transport at Codelco sites, as well as at Sotraser, which powers the largest fleet of electric tractor-trucks in Chile and South America.
At the national level: The company has built and currently operates 13 electric bus terminals that, in total, power more than 1,300 electric buses with 100% renewable energy. To these will be added 26 new electric terminals whose construction will begin this year, expanding the electric public transport network to regions such as Biobío and Atacama, which will operate with 100% renewable energy.
Furthermore, together with the Fire Department and SQM Litio, Copec will introduce the first electric fire truck in Latin America, reaffirming its commitment to the country's development.
