With the goal of reaching the Net Zero by 2050 target, the concessionaire will boost the electric transition on Route 5 South with new charging points and a total renewal of its operational fleet.
Santiago, April 8, 2025 – ISA VÍAS announced a strategic alliance with Copec Voltex, Europcar Tattersall, and Riddara to transform the road infrastructure of the Santiago – Talca section into a sustainable mobility corridor.
This initiative is divided into two fundamental pillars:
- Charging infrastructure: Installation of DC fast chargers on Route 5 South through Copec Voltex.
- Operational fleet: Total electric renewal of Ruta del Maipo's 56 operational vehicles, in partnership with Europcar Tattersall and Riddara.
Towards a Zero Carbon road network
The announcement seeks to encourage users to transition to lower-emission vehicles by offering a robust network of charging points. This strategy aligns with the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Plan of the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications.
“Chile has made very important commitments regarding climate change. When private companies build alliances that incorporate the public sector, initiatives emerge that drive the country's energy transition,” highlighted Gonzalo Durán, Presidential Delegate of the Metropolitan Region.
For his part, Miguel Carrasco, General Manager of Ruta del Maipo, emphasized that this is a key step for users to overcome range anxiety: “It is a tremendous incentive for our users to join electromobility with road infrastructure that facilitates its use.”
Goals and strengthening of the electrical network
Ruta del Maipo projects significant milestones for the short term:
| Initiative | Expected impact |
|---|---|
| Clean Energy | 50% of operations powered by clean sources by 2026. |
| Copec Voltex Chargers | 9 new fast chargers (in addition to the 5 already in place). |
| LED Lighting | Intelligent management for maximum energy efficiency across the entire route. |
Commitment to Sustainability
Francis David, Commercial Manager of Copec Voltex, pointed out that the installation of this equipment will allow for a "safe, efficient, and accessible" charging experience between Santiago and Talca, facilitating long-distance interurban travel.
Finally, speaking for Europcar Tattersall, General Manager Patricio Brinck celebrated the boldness of ISA VÍAS in adopting innovative solutions that add real value to the path toward electromobility in Chile.
In addition to the environmental impact, the project includes a social component focused on the recovery of community spaces adjacent to the routes and awareness campaigns for drivers regarding the benefits of electric mobility.
